Philosophy
Absorbent Mind Montessori School follows the educational guidelines set forth by Maria Montessori. Our program is based on the belief that during the first six years of life, children should develop through purposeful "work" in an environment that permits them to explore on their own. The child's mind will never again be as absorbent as it is from birth to age six. As the children strive to attain their potential, they develop attitudes and confidence that will serve them throughout their lives. Our goal is to see a happy, secure child who is strong in body, mind, and spirit.

Working together

Program
Our program begins with sensorial awareness and the refinement of motor skills, then expands into further areas of growth: Language development, mathematics, geography, nature studies, art, movement, and music. The special Montessori materials are designed to help children SEE, HEAR, and FEEL in physical form the abstract principles of math, reading, and writing.

The Montessori approach aims to insure the natural development of children's whole personality, of their physical and emotional faculties, as well as their intellectual powers. The tasks available to children in a Montessori class are graduated from the simple to the complex and they are free to select their own work and proceed at their own pace. By learning in this way, children gain the self-confidence so necessary in the creation of competence. The role of the adult in the classsroom is to guide children in their exploration of the materials. Children learn through their own activity, observation and discovery.

Children are guided and directed in their work by a trained Montessorian who is always ready to support and encourage them in their task of self-development.
